Some lands are too important to lose

Stewards of Washington State Lands helps Washington communities protect and care for special public lands for people, wildlife, and future generations.

FEATURED CONSERVATION STORY

Morning Star

Moving conservation from inertia to permanent protection

When Trust Land Transfer funding dried up, a critical piece of the Morning Star Natural Resources Conservation Area was left unresolved. Stewards helped rebuild statewide support for the DNR Trust Land Transfer program, contributing to renewed funding and the permanent protection of more than 1,000 acres of old-growth forest, endangered species habitat, and rare plant communities.

2027-2029 TLT Projects

More places worth protecting

Across Washington, communities, Tribes, agencies, and conservation partners have identified special state trust lands that deserve a path to permanent protection. The DNR 2027–2029 Trust Land Transfer project list includes places that would protect forests, wetlands, wildlife habitat, community parks, Tribal lands, and public access.
